August heat is here, but the river out front is cool!

Landed a nice brown trout on a size 18 orangey yellow emerger last week. Stuck in its jaw was a size 14 black foam beetle fly, which was broken off. It’s that time of year when we must be open-minded and be willing to change flies. So, get some beetles and ants in your box.

What our guests are seeing:

Not much changing yet. More BWO and caddis. Sulphurs are hatching starting in late morning and continuing throughout the day with heavy hatches and spinner falls occurring after 6:00 p.m. Sizes are 18 and 20; colors are very pale yellow, orangey yellow, and yellow, all having wings that appear strong cream (not white) when floating. Haven emergers and spinners in your box.

BWO-Size 18-20-dark wings

BWO-Size 22-26-dark wings. Try these when you can’t see what the fish are rising to.

Also have a few of these in your box

ISO-Size 12

Tan Caddis-Size 16-18

Beetles-Size 14-16

Big Black Ants-Size 16-18
