Ned here:

7/18/23

We have had heavy rain over the last week. The river’s been fluctuating up and down and it has browned out many times. Things have settled, though, and it looks like the water levels have leveled out and fishing should be good.

What our guests are seeing:

Customers who have been hitting the water early in the morning around 6:30 am fishing till 10am are continuing to pick up trout regularly on small olives and spinners in olive, cream and rusty in sizes 14 through 18. Customers are reporting sulphur hatches starting as early as 10:30 am and continuing on till mid afternoon, slowing down then restarting again around 7 pm with duns and a heavy spinner fall. There are small BWO mixed in all day (sz 20 BWO has been working well for me). One customer reported doing well with sz 18 & 20 black ants. There is a lot of green in the water, so check your fly often.

Tips:

“However, I must warn all beginners that the dry fly game is an insidious one. It creeps up on you unawares and unless you fight the tendency, you will eventually fish no other way.” Ray Bergman, Trout (1938)
