July 24

Things have settled in and it looks like the water levels are back to 500 and fishing should be good.

Tip of the Day:
Don’t eat Oreos while tying sulphurs

What our guests are seeing:
It’s that time of year when we an fish dry flies from dawn to dark, and then some. But in the same breath, fishing has been very difficult. Flies are getting smaller; it’s the time of year fish get really spooky and very selective. Focus on fish you see breaking the surface and bubbles. Google “trout rise forms.” That should help you know what to look for.

We still have some customers hitting the water early in the morning around 6:30am and fishing till 10am and picking up trout regularly on small olives and spinners in olive, cream and rusty, in sizes 14 through 18. Customers are reporting sulphur hatches starting as early as 10:30 am and continuing on till mid afternoon, slowing down, and then restarting again at 5ish with duns and a spinner fall. There are small BWO mixed in all day (sz 20 BWO has been working well for me). Be prepared to go to sz 24 if you’re capable (I am not-can’t see them). Flying ants are starting to show in greater numbers. I have seen more and more ISO’s.

There is a lot of green in the water, so check your fly often.
